It’s set to be a coming-of-age story following a group of youngsters growing up in the short-lived days of the New Republic.

Law co-stars as the Jedi Jod Na Nawood, alongside child actors Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Wim), Kyriana Kratter (KB), Robert Timothy Smith (Neel) and Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Fern).

He told People that fans will watch kids “manoeuvre through” places where they shouldn’t be, and adds that “seeing children in that environment in a Star Wars environment is thrilling and very, very unique”.

“It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars,” he added. “And there are great references to old films and recent episodes and series. There’s a lot of originality, and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it.”

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew release date

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is set for release on Monday 2nd December in the US and Tuesday 3rd December in the UK.

The different days are just down to timezone differences. In the UK, the first two episodes will hit Disney Plus at 2am.

The series was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2022, with filming beginning the same year, in September. Production wrapped in January 2023.

At Star Wars Celebration in April 2023, it was confirmed that Jude Law will be starring in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew as a Jedi.

It’s now been confirmed that his character name is Jod Na Nawood, but there are theories flying about that he may be another character in the Star Wars canon.

Law previously told Variety of joining the Star Wars world: “It was such an important part of growing up, the impact of that film and that world. The way it penetrated and exploded my imagination.

“There are one or two more times every day where I’m walking on set and it hits me like a child. I get awestruck by certain characters that are around me, that I can’t say.”

He added to People that Jod is “someone who uses quick thinking, charm and conversation to get out of all sorts of scenarios.”

Other members of the cast include Kerry Condon, the BAFTA-winning star of The Banshees of Inisherin, and a host of younger actors, while it’s also been revealed that Nick Frost will voice a droid called SM 33.

The full list of directors on Skeleton Crew remains a secret, but a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (the duo behind Everything Everywhere All at Once) will helm one episode.

What will the plot of Star Wars: Skeleton crew be?

A synopsis for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has been released and reads: “When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.“

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will be set in the same timeframe as The Mandalorian.

Watts previously explained of the story: “It’s the story about a group of kids, about 10 years old, from a tiny little planet who accidentally get lost in the Star Wars galaxy. It’s the story of their journey trying to find their way home.”

Dave Filoni teased that the kids are set for a big adventure, but it “might be more than they can handle”.

The series has been described as similar to an Amblin adventure, referring to the child-centric adventure movies produced by Steven Spielberg’s company in the 1980s, such as ET: The Extraterrestrial and The Goonies.

As for whether the show will cross over with the likes of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, only time will tell.
