One Piece: 20 Oldest Characters
One Piece has featured characters that are sometimes over several hundred years old. Here are the oldest in the series.
The heroes were joined by several other characters who helped them take down the Yonko and his henchmen. While the plot of the arc is excellent, the duels in Wano are nothing to be scoffed at either. However, there is still a disparity in the quality of the fights, with some being better than the rest.
Updated on October 5th, 2024, by Suzail Ahmad: With the anime officially entering the Egghead arc, the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates in Wano seem like a thing of the distant past. The buildup for the Wano Country arc took years, and it showed how much care and effort Oda puts into his work. The Wano Country arc is a masterclass in storytelling.
Given the fact that there were so many powerful characters in Wano, fighting was inevitable. The battles between these individuals were outstanding, and they helped to take the arc to a whole new level. With that in mind, the list has been updated to include more fights from the Wano Country arc.
19 Marco vs. King and Queen
Winner: None
Marco made his much-awaited return in the Wano Country arc. His first major contribution was sending the members of the Big Mom Pirates down the waterfall. Marco played a crucial role in the war in Onigashima, where he used his blue flames to protect his allies from Queen’s Ice Oni Virus.
Furthermore, Marco was engaged in a grueling battle with both King and Queen at the same time. While the odds were definitely in the favor of the two All-Stars, Marco somehow managed to stall them until Zoro and Sanji were ready to take their place.
18 Franky vs. Sasaki
Winner: Franky
Franky is the shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates, so it is his job to take care of the Thousand Sunny. Aside from being a shipwright, Franky is also a capable fighter who has taken down many notable opponents, like Senor Pink and Fukurou.
However, his biggest test came in the Wano Country arc, where he had to fight Sasaki, who was one of the Tobiroppo. Sasaki possessed the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Triceratops, which significantly enhanced his physical abilities. But his Devil Fruit couldn’t help him beat Franky. The latter used General Franky as a decoy and finished Sasaski off with Radical Beam.
17 Oden vs. Kaido
Winner: Kaido
Before Kozuki Oden became the daimyo of Kuri, it was a lawless land filled with bandits and other kinds of criminals. Oden used his strength to subdue them and turned Kuri into a better place. Oden also journeyed with the Whitebeard and Roger Pirates, so he knew the true history of the world.
Upon returning from his voyage, Oden found Wano under the rule of Kaido and Orochi. Oden wanted to resolve things without violence, so he agreed to their conditions. However, when he learned about their betrayal, he was outraged and went to confront Kaido. Kaido used his Devil Fruit to try and crush Oden, but the latter was just too strong. Oden gave him a massive scar on the torso, leaving Kaido in complete disarray. Unfortunately, Oden couldn’t finish the fight as he was distracted by a Kurozumi clan member. This gave Kaido a massive opportunity to attack and beat Oden.
16 Big Mom vs. Kaido
Winner: None
After being humiliated by the Straw Hat Pirates in the Whole Cake Island arc, Big Mom followed them all the way to Wano. Fans already know that Big Mom is unable to distinguish between friend and foe when she is enraged. So, anyone who tried to get in her way had to face her wrath.
In Wano, Big Mom has the opportunity to compete with her former comrade, Kaido. Normally, the two Yonko didn’t get the opportunity to go all out in a fight. So, this was a welcome change. The exchange between them gave fans a good idea of how powerful they really were. The fight lasted for three days, but there was no winner.
15 Roronoa Zoro vs. Basil Hawkins
Winner: None
Another interesting fight in Wano saw Zoro take on Basik Hawkins. Since Hawkins was working for Kaido, it was his responsibility to stop Zoro and Luffy from causing problems. Most fans assumed that Zoro would stomp Hawkins, but that wasn’t the case.
Hawkins used his Wara Wara no Mi to try and stop Zoro. The latter was able to stand his ground and prevent Hawkins from completing his mission. There was no clear winner, but it is safe to say that Zoro was the more impressive of the two.
14 Roronoa Zoro vs. Killer
Winner: None
Zoro was involved in an exhilarating battle with Killer early on in the arc. Both of them were members of the Worst Generation, which only added to the hype of the battle. Despite the fact that neither of them were at full power, the fight was still pretty good.
Both of them traded a few blows before deciding to unleash their final attacks. However, Zoro and Killer were unable to attain victory as they both were knocked out. In the manga, the fight wasn’t as good, but the anime made it seem like a great battle.
13 Whitebeard vs. Roger
Winner: None
Whitebeard and Roger are two of the greatest pirates in the history of One Piece. They were considered the crème de la crème of the old era. Both Roger and Whitebeard were blessed with a great deal of power.
However, fans had never seen them fight. This changed in the Wano Country arc. The fight took place in Oden’s flashback, who at the time was sailing with the Whitebeard Pirates. The duel between Roger and Whitebeard was long, but neither of them were able to win.
12 Yamato vs. Kaido
Winner: None
Yamato clashed with Kaido after Luffy was defeated by the Yonko. Yamato despised his father for how he treated him. Throughout his entire life, Yamato could do nothing but endure. The chaos on Onigashima gave him the perfect opportunity to fight his father and let out his pent-up anger.
Kaido and Yamato fought for a short period of time, but it was still an incredible fight. Both father and son went all out and used their hybrid forms. Many fans expected Yamato to fall, but he held his ground until Luffy got back up.
11 Jimbei vs. Who’s Who
Winner: Jimbei
Jimbei made his long-awaited return in the Wano Country arc after he promised Luffy that he would reunite with the crew in the future. Jimbei’s first major fight as a Straw Hat came against Who’s Who, a former CP9 member. During the fight, Who’s Who divulged a lot of sensitive information regarding Luffy’s Devil Fruit.
The Tobi Roppo member was so confident in his abilities that he even tried to rile up Jimbei. The two characters exchanged a few blows before Jimbei took down Who’s Who with a well-placed hit.
10 Nico Robin vs. Black Maria
Winner: Nico Robin
Nico Robin turned up to face Black Maria after Sanji pleaded for her help. The archaeologist had not been involved in a decent fight in a very long time, and this was the perfect opportunity for her to shine.
Black Maria tried to overwhelm Robin using her Devil Fruit abilities, but the latter was more or less unaffected by her attacks. Ultimately, Nico Robin used a completely new form called Demonio Fleur and blew Black Maria out of the water.
9 Killer vs. Hawkins
Winner: Killer
Killer had a bone to pick with Basil Hawkins after the Supernova joined Kaido’s crew. Both of them were involved in several minor tussles with other characters, but this was their most important fight in the arc.
Hawkins used his Wara Wara no Mi to make a doll tied to Kid. So any kind of damage dealt to Hawkins was redirected toward Kid, and due to this reason, Killer had to tread carefully. After fighting for a while, Killer found a weak spot and attacked Hawkins’ left arm. As Kid did not have a left arm, Hawkins ended up taking the entire brunt of the attack.
8 Inuarashi vs. Jack
Winner: Inuarashi
Inuarashi and Jack fought each other for the first time on Zou. The All-Star traveled to the land of the Minks in order to find and capture Raizo. The Minks tried to talk to Jack, but he was not willing to listen. Inuarashi and Nekomamushi kept him at bay until he used Caesar’s poison gas.
In Wano, Inurashi and Jack came face-to-face again, and this time, the Mink triumphed. With his victory, Inuarashi finally got revenge for what Jack did in the Mokomo Dukedom.
7 Nekomamushi vs. Perospero
Winner: Nekomamushi
Despite not being a Sweet Commander, Perospero was a fantastic fighter who mastered the use of his Devil Fruit powers. In the Whole Cake Island arc, Pedro had to sacrifice himself because of Perospero.
When Nekomamushi saw the Big Mom pirate in Wano, he knew what he had to do. Using the power of his Sulong form, Nekomamushi wiped the floor with Perosero, thus avenging the death of his beloved underling.
6 The Scabbards vs. Kaido
Winner: Kaido
The Scabbards were fiercely loyal to Kozuki Oden, and when he was murdered in cold blood by Kaido, they couldn’t let it go. They remained in the shadows until they finally found the opportunity to make Kaido pay for what he did.
It was an emotional moment for all the members as they landed one attack after another on the Yonko. Unfortunately, Kaido was more or less unfazed by their moves, and he took them out swiftly.
5 Sanji vs Queen
Winner: Sanji
Sanji is a member of the Monster Trio, making him one of the best fighters within the crew. Much was made of Sanji not having a proper fight in Whole Cake Island after it was dubbed “Sanji’s arc.” Thankfully, he got his big fight in Wano as he took on Queen.
Not only was the fight important from a physical perspective, but there was also an emotional element to it. Queen knew Judge and made sure to use all the moves that Sanji’s siblings had to destabilize him mentally. Once Sanji resolved his inner conflict, there wasn’t much that Queen could do to save himself.
4 Roronoa Zoro vs. King
Winner: Roronoa Zoro
Roronoa Zoro received a massive power-up in Wano in the form of Enma. The sword was once wielded by Kozuki Oden, who used it to injure Kaido. Zoro’s fight with King was fast-paced, and the Straw Hat pirate struggled to find a vulnerability in the All-Star’s armor.
After analyzing the pattern of King’s attacks, Zoro figured out how to defeat him. Zoro tamed Enma and unleashed a powerful attack that overwhelmed King. One could say that King’s recklessness led to his downfall. If he had been patient and allowed Zoro’s energy to drain, the latter would have lost the fight.
3 Kid, Law vs. Big Mom
Winner: Law and Kid
Law and Kid were tasked with the responsibility of fighting Big Mom. She was separated from Kaido by the Supernovas, as it was the only way for them to win the war. Kid and Law struggled for the majority of the fight, but their Devil Fruit Awakenings helped them turn things around.
Big Mom was in awe of their power, so she refused to hold back. She even used part of her own life to boost her strength. Things looked bleak for the twk young pirates, but they remained resolute. Ultimately, Law’s Ope Ope no Mi proved its worth as it sent Big Mom crashing into a magma pit.
2 Worst Generation vs. Kaido and Big Mom
Winner: None
This was one of the standout fights in the arc. The Worst Generation members, led by Luffy, went to the rooftop to face the two Yonko. The fight was extremely enthralling, and all the characters showed off their ridiculous powers.
The Supernovas put up a good fight, but they soon realized it was impossible to defeat the two Yonko together. So they formulated a plan to separate Big Mom and Kaido to boost their chances of victory.
1 Luffy vs. Kaido
Winner: Luffy
Luffy versus Kaido was the crème de la crème of the Wano Country arc. The fight had many twists and turns, with the momentum shifting with every passing second. When Kaido managed to land a critical hit on Luffy, everyone thought that the latter was dead.
However, he awakened the true power of his Devil Fruit. He called his new ability Gear 5, and it gave him more freedom over his power. Luffy combined his Devil Fruit with Conqueror’s Haki to land many powerful blows on Kaido. Eventually, he defeated Kaido and liberated Wano from his tyranny.
