Marr’s musical musings | Radio Times

“There’s a lot of amazing things about albums… I still think it’s a valid artform,” says legendary musician Johnny Marr in this four-part series. In it, the former Smiths guitarist plays tracks from his favourite LPs. With bands ranging from T-Rex to Gorillaz, he doesn’t stick to one era, either, as he lifts the lid on his own musical influences. Part of Radio 2’s way to celebrate National Album Day, this is a perfect way to herald the joy of the LP. JAMES MOTTRAM

HEALTH

I’m ADHD! No You’re Not

The first episode, in which Dr Mine Conkbayir and her husband Paul Whitehouse talk to ADHD advocate Rory Bremner, is an informative listen. Given the accompanying fact that the difficulty those diagnosed with ADHD often experience with listening and focus are qualities that showbiz can often appear to be actively encouraging, it can also be a tiring one. Further guests in this series include Katie Price, Shapparak Khorsandi and Denise Welch. DAVID HEPWORTH

COMEDY

Single Ladies in Your Area

Amy Gledhill and Harriet Kemsley are both comedians in their 30s, but they have more in common, too: they’ve recently come out of longterm relationships, want to start dating again, but haven’t got the foggiest idea of how to go about it. Although not quite in the same league (yet) as French and Saunders, the way they bounce so easily off one another makes for some laugh-out-loud moments. There’s some strong language and references to bodily parts, but this is feel-good funny. ANNA JONES

DOCUMENTARY

Crime Next Door: Death on the Farm

When the bodies of pensioner siblings were discovered in their remote farmhouse in 1976, the residents of Llangolman, Pembrokeshire feared a local had committed the gruesome murders. But the official police version of events, including the culprit’s identity, still does not add up to family and friends nearly 50 years later. This series from BBC Wales puts the case under the microscope and will leave you with as many questions as the locals fighting to exonerate one of their own. JEREMY ASPINALL

DRAMA

Up in Smoke

If true crime is your genre of choice then you’ve probably also sampled the subgenre of fictional true crime and will be delighted by Up in Smoke. Mei Mac gets it just right as the breathy narrator, a journalist-turned-podcaster taking the listener two steps forward, one back through the story of a teenager who is missing after his home burns down. An audio first for video production company Penny4, who have built a small town of voices, dramatic atmospherics and a supernatural twist. FIONA HUGHES

POLITICS

The World

This Sky News/NBC News co-production promises us the world and is unlikely to renege. Yalda Hakim, lead world news presenter at Sky, and Richard Engel, NBC’s chief foreign correspondent, jointly analyse conflict as and where it happens. Their first programme — with a new episode every Wednesday — came from Lebanon. Will this podcast fare better than the proposed Sky/NBC news channel, abandoned in 2020? My guess is considerably.
