Differences Between The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask on N64 and 3DS
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask gets added to Switch Online in February, but some changes were made for its original re-release on 3DS.
Keep in mind that players can come back after beating the temple and the boss, so this can always be done later. Additionally, there are slight variations between the N64/Gamecube versions and the 3DS version. Here, the N64 version is the default, and the 3DS version will be mentioned as necessary. This guide to the Woodfall temple’s fairies will help old players remember fairy locations, while helping new players discover them.

Obtaining The Great Fairy’s Mask
Not Necessary, But Highly Recommended
It is important to note that the Great Fairy’s Mask will make this task a thousand times easier, so it’s worth getting it before tackling any stray fairy quests. The mask can be obtained by helping the great fairy in North Clock Town, and the single fairy you need to bring to her is located in the laundry pool during the day, and near the Deku flower in front of the Stock Pot Inn in East Clock Town at night.
First Fairy
Location: Entrance
As soon as you walk into the Woodfall temple’s first room, you’ll see a fairy floating above a chasm. By using the first Deku Flower, fly to the left Deku Flower platform, and turn to the right to face the wall. Link can hop into that Deku flower to fly across and get the fairy. If players have the fairy mask, they can just put it on, and the fairy will come directly to Link without him even having to move.
Second Fairy
Location: Entrance
This one is simple. When you face the wall from the first flower platform, you will see that the very next platform, slightly to the right behind a tree trunk, holds a chest. The second fairy is in it. Simply glide across using the Deku flower, then open the chest to find another fairy. Because it is inside a chest, the fairy mask will not call the fairy to you if you use it, even though the mask will glow when you’re near it.
Third Fairy
Location: Main Room
Walk into the next room with the large mechanical flower in the center of a poison swamp. Bypassing the tall regenerating Deku Baba near the door, take the wooden path on the left to find another Deku Baba. Put it out of its misery to receive the third fairy.
Fourth Fairy
Location: Main Room
In the corner of this room, there are 5 pots on a platform and the fourth fairy is inside one of them. From the location of the third fairy, hop across the flowers as Deku Link to avoid the poison water and traverse to the platform. Link will have to go to the platform with the door on the other side of the room before jumping to the corner with the pots, as he cannot make it straight from the flower platforms.
Fifth Fairy
Location: Push-Block Room
After getting the first key, go back to the main room where the third and fourth fairies were located and go through the locked door. In this room, move the block forward and follow the wooden path to the right, then proceed to kill the Skulltula. Link will receive a fairy as a reward for its demise.
Sixth Fairy
Location: Push-Block Room
Stay in this room and get back onto the wooden path to look up at the floating platforms above Link. The hornet’s nest on the platform directly above the wooden intersection contains a fairy. Use Deku Link’s bubble blast or another projectile to shoot it down. The other nests will drop items too, but only the middle one is necessary to get the fairy.
Seventh Fairy
Location: Dark Boe Room
Above the room with fairies five and six, there’s a dark room with an obnoxiously numerous amount of black Boes. Dispose of them all to make a treasure chest appear that contains the seventh fairy.

Several Zelda games feature a mysterious character represented by only a hand, which is inspired by a real-world story that’s just as creepy.
Don’t forget to kill the Boes hiding around the torch. Getting back out can be confusing, but lighting all three torches in this room will remove the bars from the door, allowing Link to exit this forsaken place.
Eighth Fairy
Location: Main Room
Head to the upper level of the main room again with the large wooden flower in the center where the third and fourth fairies were located. If you come out of the door under the area with the pillars, there’s a fairy in a bubble to the right of the door. Grab it to receive the eighth fairy.
Ninth Fairy
Location: Golden Eye Switch Room
After defeating the Dinolfos and getting the bow, follow the L-shaped path to see a hornet’s nest inside the mouth of a monkey mural that’s on the wall to the left of the eye switch. Shoot the nest to release the ninth fairy. The fairy mask will call the fairy to Link for easy retrieval. However, those who don’t have the fairy mask can shoot the eye to activate a moving platform with a Deku flower on it. Now, Link can jump down and get the fairy using Deku Link to hop over the water, then use the moving platform to get back up.
Tenth Fairy
Location: Push-Block Room
Without the fairy mask, this fairy was difficult enough to be removed in the 3DS version of the game. In the 3DS version, the fairy is in the room with the floating Deku flower platforms and dragonfly enemies on the second floor of the temple. The fairy is located inside a bubble in the dark northeast corner of the room, on the lower level under the platforms.
For the N64 version, backtrack to the room with the block and wooden path where the fifth fairy was. Now that Link has the bow, he can go to the far end of the room near the Skulltula and look under the wooden path to see a fairy. Using the bow and arrow, shoot the fairy to release it from its bubble. Link will need the fairy mask to avoid damage from the poisonous water.

The Legend Of Zelda: Best Versions Of Majora’s Mask, Ranked
Majora’s Mask has had many re-releases on many different platforms over the years, but some are better than others.
Players without the fairy mask have two options here. It is possible to retrieve this fairy when the poison water is cleared after the boss is defeated. Players can also jump into the water as child Link and swim under the walkway while it is still poisoned, but it will take some skill not to die. The fairy will heal Link when touched, and players can then get out of the poison water using the staircase that’s near the door. It is possible to do with only three hearts, if a bit difficult.
Eleventh Fairy
Location: Main Room
Return to the main room with the mechanical flower where fairies three, four, and eight were located. There’s a switch next to a torch that Link must press to reveal a chest containing the fairy. Go to it using the Deku flower on the upper level near where fairy eight was found, then turn back into child Link and press the button. Open the chest that appears for fairy number eleven.
Twelfth Fairy
Location: Boss Door Room
The remaining four fairies are located in the final room before the boss. Go down the ladder and enter the Deku flower, turn right and fly to the platform on the right where another Deku flower is visible, and you’ll see a fairy in a bubble upon landing.
Alternatively, for those who have the fairy mask, there’s an easier way. Simply stand in the middle of the room and pop the fairy bubble with an arrow, then let the mask do the rest of the work.
Thirteenth Fairy
Location: Boss Door Room
This one is just above the last one. Keep climbing up the alcoves using the Deku flowers until Link reaches the top, and the thirteenth fairy will be located inside a bubble in the final alcove.
Fourteenth Fairy
Location: Boss Door Room
Go back to the main Deku flower located under the ladder and travel up the same way as before, but on the left side instead. Another fairy in a bubble is visible here. This is the fourteenth fairy.
Again, it’s easier to use the fairy mask for those who have it and want to save time. Instead of climbing up the room’s left side, stay where the twelfth fairy was. Then, look across the room to see another fairy in a bubble. Pop the bubble, and let the mask do its job.
Fifteenth Fairy
Location: Boss Door Room
After getting the fourteenth fairy, turn around and use an arrow to hit the crystal switch. Once the flames go down, fly directly to the fairy in the bubble. This is the final fairy. Alternatively, the easiest option is to use the bow and arrow to pop the fairy’s bubble, then use the fairy mask to let the fairy come directly to Link.
Great Fairy Fountain Location
Claiming The Reward
After getting all 15 fairies, return the strays to the Great Fairy of the Swamp to restore her original form. Her fountain is located in a cave near the Woodfall temple. It is visible from the altar where Link raised Woodfall Temple and can be reached by flying over as Deku Link. In the original N64/Gamecube versions of Majora’s Mask, Link is granted with the (largely useless) Charged Spin Attack move. In the 3DS version, he gets a double magic meter.
