Fallout 76: How To Craft Ammo

Ammo is always going to be tight in Fallout 76. Making your own can make that problem less of a hassle.

Instead of listing all of the locations, this guide will cover the best ways to collect as much of the material as possible. By traveling to these locations and looting them a few times, survivors in Fallout 76 will have all the Fiber they need to craft and upgrade at the workbench.

Updated October 28, 2024 by Benjamin Joe: The last few months have been big for Fallout 76. From the release of the hit Fallout TV series to a whole slew of updates, the game has seen lots of new players load up and take on all that post-war Appalachia has to offer. While there haven’t been any changes made toward obtaining ballistic fiber, there was one method that was left out of the original article; buying it from players.

Purchasing ballistic fiber from players is a great way to stock up on this valuable resource. So, this article needed to be updated to show how to trade and find players who are willing to part ways with some of their excess ballistic fiber.

Camp McClintock

Great For Lower Levels

Camp McClintock Fallout 76

This area, which is just north of the Charleston Capitol, has a total of six Military Ammo Bags, as well as two Military Duct Tape. Use one of the game’s best builds to farm this area without any of the local monsters being able to impede. Every Military Duct Tape scrapped by the player provides them with two Ballistic Fiber. Players also get two Ballistic Fiber when scrapping a Military Ammo Bag. These items offer the most Ballistic Fiber with the exclusion of Bulk Ballistic Fiber.

Camp McClintock is the best place to go for low-level players. Most players will have already visited this location as it plays an important part in the main storyline. But, for those who haven’t yet been here, it’s an easy place to navigate with very few enemies, making it the best place to go if you are relatively new to the game.

Fallout 76 Camp McClintock Location The The Map

To find all of the Ballistic Fiber in this area, simply follow the steps below:

  • Bag 1: Enter the building from the North. It will be in the open locker to the right.
  • Bag 2: Go left from the entrance. It is on the desk beneath the Quartermaster sign.
  • Bag 3: Instead of entering the building, head southwest to the tin buildings (Barracks) denoted by a flag. It is at the back of the building, to the left of the flag.
  • Bag 4: In the tank by the Barracks.
  • Bag 5: Head southwest from the fast travel location until the isolated cabin appears. It will be on the cabin floor.
  • Bag 6: Same location as bag 5.
  • Duct Tape 1: Walk up the stairs and take a left. It is on the wooden stand next to the metal shelf.
  • Duct Tape 2: At the Barracks entrance in the same building as Bag 3.

Fort Defiance

Fallout 76 Fort Defiance

Fort Defiance has the most ammo bags of any location on the map. There are a total of nine bags in the general area, but sadly, there is no Military Grade Duct Tape at the fort. Lose any impractical armor sets to avoid getting torn apart by the opponents here.

Fallout 76 Fort Defiance Location The The Map

Follow the instructions below to collect each one. Gamers will want to enter through the blue double doors on the west side of the Fort.

To gather all these bags, players will need to progress through the Fort Defiance mission in the storyline. Once inside, press the red button, and head into the restricted area. Areas like this are fun to explore. Some gamers would say it makes the game worth playing even today. Just keep in mind that there are usually quite a few enemies inside this building, so proceed with caution.

25 Beginner Tips for Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is significantly different from other games in the series, so players will need to take advantage of these tips to succeed in the game.

  • Bags 1&2: Walk to the end of the hall, make a right, and use the ramp to access the second floor. Jump on the ledge to the south and enter the small room to the west. It will be on the shelf.
  • Bag 3: After leaving the room above, walk to the north through the hole in the wall to an identical room. It will be on the shelf in that room.
  • Bag 4: Instead of jumping on the ledge, continue north after walking up the ramp. Walk through the door on the right, and it will be in the first room to the northeast.
  • Bag 5: Leave the room, take a right (north), and walk up the stairs. Walk to the end of the hall through the right door, which will be in the first room on the left, across from the white refrigerator.
  • Bag 6: Make a left from the elevator. It will be inside the first door on the right.
  • Bag 7: The next ammo bag is right between the two bunkbeds in the same room.
  • Bag 8: Leave the room, take a right, and enter the room on the right at the end of the hall. In the room to the right, the bag is on the bottom shelf.
  • Bag 9: The final bag is on the box in that same room.

The Thorn

An Old Military Outpost

Due north from Fort Defiance, there are three more ammo bags and one Military Duct tape. With fierce enemies around, this may not be the best game to get drunk in.

At the camp, the first bag is inside the tent. In the center of the camp, there is yet another bag right next to a body. The final bag is on the bottom of a shelf on the northwest end of the camp. To the left of the shelf is the Military Duct Tape.

Fallout 76: The 16 Best Mutations In The Game, Ranked

From Speed Demon to Twisted Muscles, here are some of the best mutations you can hope to find in Fallout 76.

After looting all three of these locations, gamers will have roughly 42 Ballistic Fiber. If that is not enough, there are three more bags and another piece of Military Duct Tape at Forward Station Alpha in the hills to the northeast. Finally, players should have enough Ballistic Fiber to meet all of their high-end crafting needs. The game has many improvements it needs to make, so having extra Ballistic Fiber around for potential upgrades on the horizon is a wise decision.

The Most Sensational Game

The Expedition That Offers Ballistic Fiber

Ballistic Fiber Next To The Batsuuri Twins in Fallout 76

When playing with friends, it is possible to farm an unlimited amount of Ballistic Fiber from the expedition The Most Sensational Game. This expedition is considered to be the best expedition in the game. It can be a bit of a grind, but for those with some patience, it can really pay off.

To do this multiple times, the player will need to be on a team with a friend. Upon loading in, players will be prompted to talk to the Batsuuri Twins. Next to the Batsuuri Twins, there are three Military Ammo Bags. The team leader mustn’t pick up the Military Ammo Bags. If they do, then the bags will not spawn back in during the next expedition.

Any player aside from the team leader can pick up the Military Ammo Bags. Then, complete the expedition as normal. After completing the expedition, the team leader should begin a new expedition, and more bags should spawn back in.

Players can repeat this process as often as they like. It’s worth talking with a friend and then splitting the loot after a few runs. This can be a very profitable way to farm Ballistic Fiber.

Farming Missile Silos

A High-Level Way To Get Ballistic Fiber

fallout-76-players-watching-nuke

There are three missile silos in Fallout 76; Site Alpha, Site Bravo, and Site Charlie. Players will need to run through a missile silo to launch a nuke. Launching nukes plays a big part in the game. In fact, it’s the center point of the main storyline.

The interior of all three missile silos is the same, so it doesn’t really matter which one the player goes to. Dotted throughout the silos, players will come across several Ammo Bags. These bags are scattered throughout each silo. Not only that but there is a gym inside each silo that contains lots of weights that can be broken down for lead. Since lead is required for crafting most standard ammo types, it may be worth grabbing the weights while scavenging for Ammo Bags.

There is also a chance of finding some extra Ballistic Fiber inside desk drawers that can be found throughout each missile silo.

An Enemy Drop

Hunt For The Mothman

fallout-76-mothman-feature

Most enemies in Fallout 76 will drop certain items upon death. Deathclaws drop Black Titanium, Wendigos drop screws, and the Mothman will drop Ballistic Fiber. While it can be a little time-consuming hunting down a Mothman, when killed, players will be able to pick up a Torn Mothman Wing from its corpse. This can be broken down into 2 Acid and 1 Ballistic Fiber. While it isn’t much, it is better than nothing.

While finding a Mothman can be tricky, there are a few locations that can potentially spawn a Mothman encounter:

  • Kanawha County Cemetery
  • Blake’s Offering
  • Lucky Hole Mine
  • Camp Venture
  • Point Pleasant
  • Moth-Home
  • Sacrament

There are other locations where players may encounter a Mothman, but the ones listed above tend to be the more fruitful locations to visit. It’s also worth noting that the Mothman will only appear at night.

Buy Bulk Ballistic Fiber From Vendor Bots

Save Time, Spend Caps

Bulk Ballistic FIber in Fallout 76

Ballistic Fiber isn’t cheap. That said, high-level players usually find it pretty easy to make Caps in Fallout 76. For those looking to save some time, it may be worth paying the Caps and buying Bulk Ballistic Fiber from Vendor Bots dotted around Appalachia.

Not every Vendor Bot will have Bulk Ballistic Fiber for sale. To maximize the chance of finding some, head to the Whitespring Mall. Here, there are lots of vendors that players can trade with. Some of them will have Bulk Ballistic Fiber for sale.

By switching to a new server after trading with the Vendor Bots, the items that the Bots have for sale will be different. So, by server hopping, players can find an almost unlimited amount of Bulk Ballistic Fiber for their repairing needs.

Purchasing Ballistic Fiber From Other Players

Can Be A Rather Lucrative Way Of Getting Bulk Ballistic Fiber

Fallout 76 Player Vendors

There’s a large trading community behind Fallout 76. There are places on both Reddit and Discord that are dedicated to player trading. While there are a handful of scammers out there, there are also lots of honest players who are always more than happy to set up a trade. For players who don’t want to run the risk of getting scammed, there are couriers that they can use through Reddit that will act as a middleman during the trade.

If the player doesn’t want to trade through third-party sites, then there is another option, vendor hopping. Every server is filled with player CAMPS. Most of them have things that players can purchase. While there’s no guarantee that a player is selling Ballistic Fiber, if they have junk items for sale, there’s always a chance that they might have some Ballistic Fiber listed in their vendors. Players who have some spare Caps to spend can hop from server to server in the hopes of finding a CAMP Vendor with some Ballistic Fiber inside.

Also, if players are really desperate, then they can try to approach players directly and trade with them. While not all players will want to trade, some will be more than willing to let the player browse their inventory. More often than not, players will have a handful of junk items in their inventory. The chances of a player having a lot of it on their character are slim, but in desperate times, a small amount of Ballistic Fiber can be just enough for one’s needs.

Additional Locations

A Few Other Places To Stock Up On Ballistic Fiber

Fallout 76 Farming Spots For Ballistic Fibers

Anyone desperate for even more can find additional materials in the following locations. The game’s iconic power armor will be happy for the extra upgrades applied by Ballistic Fiber.

  • Abbie’s Bunker: 1 Ammo Bag
  • Camp Venture: 1 Ammo Bag
  • Clancy Manor: 3 Military Grade Duct Tape
  • Converted Munitions Factory: 1 Ballistic Fiber Scrap
  • Firebase Hancock: 2 Ammo Bags and 1 Military Grade Duct Tape
  • Firebase LT: 2 Ammo Bags
  • Forward Station Alpha: 1 Ammo Bag
  • Monogah Power Plant: 2 Ammo Bags
  • National Radio Astronomy Research Center: 2 Military Grade Duct Tape
  • Relay Tower EM-B1-27: 2 Ammo Bags
  • Sons Of Dane: 2 Ammo Bags
  • Watoga Civic Center: 1 Ammo Bag

This list is by no means comprehensive, but it covers known locations that will contain enough materials to craft any item that lists Ballistic Fiber as a necessary ingredient. Updates add areas to the game that might sometimes contain Ballistic Fiber. Just like the additional Ballistic Fiber added with The Most Sensational Game Expedition. These components can be found and looted all over the map. These are simply the highest-density areas of Ballistic Fiber materials around. For the best results, combine all the information from the list above with a general taste for grabbing every item you see while exploring.
